Oaxaca

“Wa-ha-ka”. It’s the culinary capital of Mexico, it’s warm in November, and I’m headed there tomorrow (Nov 18, 2019) to study intensive Spanish (4 hours/day, 5 days/week), explore, and hopefully get some cooking lessons too. The adventure begins! Blog entries below.

  • The Plan
Kathy’s made it muy simple for me. Found the school. Made the flight arrangements. First to Houston, and hour and a half there, then on to Oaxaca. • Day 1.
As I wrote yesterday, it was a little suspicious (call it “cognitive dissonance”) that the “homestay” shared an address with the school. I find taking photos of food pretentious, so you’ll not see much here, but I’d like to describe some… Read more: Eating Oaxaca
  • Meltdown
Some of my classmates had mentioned personal meltdowns at the end of the first week. In fact this morning (after I wrote this, actually) one of my classmates admitted he’d had several, although I’m guessing they lacked the magnitude of mine. For me, it didn’t even take a week. After three days of classes, I… Read more: Meltdown
